Dear Member,
I am
writing to ask for your support in the Northampton North
Parliamentary selection. I am hoping however to meet as
many of you as possible in the coming weeks to let you know a
little about myself and why I am standing in this
selection.
I have
a degree in law and currently work in the office of the Treasury
Solicitor.
I regularly give advice and carry out research on the plight of many immigrant and minority women in Britain. I have published advice booklets on family law rights for immigrants, and give regular talks on the dangers still facing many ethnic minority people in the UK.
I am
deeply concerned about the future of the NHS and think urgent
action is needed now to save it from further privatisation. I
want to mobilise a strong and vocal campaign in defence of the NHS
and the principles on which it was created. If you were to
select me as your candidate, one of my first actions would be to
get in touch with staff in local hospitals and organise a strong
defence of the health service and a recognition of the amazing work
NHS staff carry out every day.
I
believe we need to defend our welfare state and reconnect strongly
with trade unions and workers. As your candidate, I will make
contact with all local trade union branches and coordinate a united
Labour movement campaign across Northampton.
I want
to restore some integrity in to mainstream politics and bring
passion and principle back to our political debate. For far
too long, Parliamentary politics has been dominated by politicians
often completely disconnected from the people they serve. I
believe there is a greater need for the people affected by policy
to have their voices heard, and for voters to have a greater say in
the way they are governed. We need to bring the Labour Party
back to the people it serves.
If you
select me as your candidate, I will immediately move to Northampton
and begin our important campaign and bring our Party back to our
people.
I hope
I can count on your support.
